Singing my way through the darkness.
I started this last Friday, January 20, 2017. I reached for funny. It was out of my grasp. This song popped into my head and I couldn't get it out, so I decided to sing it out. It's taken me all week to get it done and it's far from perfect, but it's real and it's heartfelt and I'll let it stand on that. There is SO much that terrifies me about the orange new world we're walking around in (*insert "WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK" face*). To be quite honest, I've spent a lot of the past week curled up in a ball fighting off feelings of despair. I know I'm not alone in that. I have more to say about it all, and maybe I'll do that in another post here soon. But in the meantime, know that I've uncurled, de-couched and am doing what I can do: raising my voice. Y'all keep doing the same.
"Oh let us turn our thoughts today to Martin Luther King
And recognize that there are ties between us
All men and women - living on the earth
Ties of hope and love, of sister and brotherhood
That we are bound together
In our desire to see the world become
A place in which our children can grow free and strong
We are bound together
By the task that stands before us
And the road that lies ahead
We are bound and we are bound."
- James Taylor
